The Good Shepherd Retablo

$450.00

In this terra cotta retablo of the Good Shepherd, the clay carving of Jesus as the Good Shepherd symbolizes the relationship between Jesus and his followers, and the themes of love, sacrifice, and guidance. It also conveys Jesus’ role as a compassionate savior who protects and saves his flock. The circle that surrounds him is meant to represent both the Eucharist and the sun or the moon. The sheep on either side of him are docile and beside a running stream and verdant pastures. The locals of white and red convey his body and blood poured out for his flock and impressed upon his flock ad his disciples. He carries a golden staff to indicate his kingship despite the humility found in the overall image. Surrounding the main image is earthy blues and greens which represent our call as disciples to bring Christ to the world which is broken and dark at times. It is the mission God has bestowed on his disciples to be in the wold but not of it.
